Christmas break for Aces, Pastor Paul’s Bible study class and Crossroads will begin next week. Pastor Paul’s class and Crossroads had their last class last night. Aces last class will be tonight. Crossroads and Pastor Paul’s class will resume Wednesday, January 6. Aces will resume Thursday, January 7.

 

Ojai Valley Family Shelter has been up and running since December 1. It will continue until March 31. OVCC is participating in this ministry of providing warm meals and shelter to those in our valley who are in need. We are shelter hosts the first Saturday night of every month. Dinner and breakfast are provided for the guests. We invite you to contribute by providing a side dish, salad or a main course.  For more information, please contact Jenny Owen, 649-1499. If you could contact her during the week before our host night, she will be able to tell you what is needed.

 

Men’s Poker Potluck Party will be on Monday, December 21, 6:30pm in Leis Hall.  Sign up to bring a dish to share.  For more information contact Don Smith, 746-3172, ddrsmith2@aol.com.

Celebrate the birth of Christ at the Christmas Eve Service It will be on Thursday evening, December 24, 6-6:45pm. We welcome you to join us as we reflect on the real ‘reason for the season’.

 

Youth Snowboarding Trip to Sierra Summit is on January 24-25. The cost is $140. This includes two lift tickets, three meals and one nights lodging.  For more information contact Maria David, msmusic61@aol.com, (805) 340-8626.

 

Children’s Church 2010  Beginning January 3, 2010, children will come to the Sanctuary for worship with their parents.  After worship the children and parent helpers will be dismissed to go to their Promise Land classes.

 

Dazed and Confused  Does the sermon leave you with questions you would like to ask?  Are you ‘dazed and confused’?  Feel free to stay after the service and ask for clarification from the pastors. They would love to answer any questions you may have.

Prayer Requests for the prayer chain can be called in to the church office and they will be forwarded to the Elders and Pastors for confidential prayer.  If you want our church body to pray with you, you can also call your prayer request in to the office and specify that it be put in the bulletin for the body to pray. Yarn donations are gratefully accepted for the ladies of Teen Challenge. They are learning how to crochet.  You may leave the yarn at the Information Desk in the Lobby.

 

Nordhoff Moms in Touch  meets on Friday mornings 7:30 - 8:30am in Leis Hall.  Do you feel like you are always praying for your children "on-the-run" or a prayer time that is a bit "hit and miss"?  Mom's in Touch invites you to join.  They are a group of Nordhoff H.S. moms.  They are all learning to pray for teens so there is no need to "hold back" because you feel you aren't a good "pray-er".  They are a friendly group who are eager to welcome you!  For more information about our group or other Moms in Touch groups at other schools in the Valley call Jackie O'Brien at 646-1542.  "Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord, lift up your hands toward Him for the lives of your children."  Lamentations 2:19 

 

Moms in Touch Matilija is for mothers of Matilija Jr. High.  They are meeting at Angelica’s Griffith’s home on Wednesdays, 8-9am at 405 Shady Lane in Ojai.  For more information contact Angelica at 646-5247, angelicagriffith@sbcglobal.net.

Time change for Adult Sunday School.  They meet now at 8:45am instead of 8:30 am in the back of Leis Hall each Sunday morning. Class ends at 9:30am. All adults are welcome to join in at any time. Elder Curt Sowa is leading the lively class.

 

Do you need a quiet place to connect with God? The new Chapel location is at the foot of the stairs, across the hall from the back of Leis Hall. It is in the room that is shaped like a triangle.

Youth Center front lawn is now open for adoption.  This area is in desperate need of curb appeal.  If you have a green thumb or just enjoy working outside, this may be the ministry for you. If you are interested, please contact the church office at 646-4324.

 

‘Encourage’ is a new class for 7th -  8th graders during the sermon time. They will meet every Sunday, except for the first Sunday of the month (Family Service).

 

Facebook fever is sweeping the world. It is a great online way to stay in contact with friends, family and groups.  Ojai Valley Community Church now has a page.  Thanks to Pastor Ryan for setting it up.  It’s free. It’s fun. There are pictures of the Easter Sunrise Service, Men’s Barbeque, fishing trip, June 17 Summer Evening at the Park and the youth field trip to MB2 car racing event.  Check it out

Recycle Ministry/Car Clinic is a new ministry under the leadership of Eric and Christine Hodge. This is a two-fold ministry. Not only does our church become more ‘green’ and makes strides towards becoming more responsible for this beautiful planet God has blessed us with, but also, the funds received from recycling goes towards a fund for the Car Clinic. The Car Clinic fund is for individuals and families who need help with car maintenance. You can bring your CRV recyclables to church and place them near the coffee kiosk. Sunday morning Child care:  Nursery care is available in Room 207.  Two and three-year olds are welcome in Room 204. For and five year olds can enjoy a lesson in room 202.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Thanks to God for all his blessings and bountiful feasts in our lives. J

The coffee cart ministry is alive and well thanks to volunteers Tyson Dorsey and Tim McNerny. Thanks guys for stepping up to the plate and providing hospitality and a welcoming ambiance for newcomers and oldcomers alike.

 

Young Life Ojai Valley will be having their first fundraiser this Sunday, December 6 at Jim & Robs Fresh Grill, 214 W. Ojai Avenue #100, in Ojai, 640-1301.  This fundraiser will continue each and every first Sunday of the month. 10% of all sales from 4-8:30pm will go towards this important and worthwhile ministry. It will be a great time of fellowship, support for a local business, an opportunity to raise money for teens in the valley and feed your family at the same time. It is a win, win, win, win situation. Don't want to miss the big Sunday night game? They have a couple TV's and a family friendly atmosphere. Like to stay in on Sunday nights? New Announcements…

 

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you next Thursday. Prayers and thanksgiving to God that we may celebrate this wonderful day in a free and united country. I will not be emailing you next week, of course, I will be busy cooking and eating. J Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your friends and families.

 

Baptism Congratulations goes out to Noah Sharp, Jay North, Susie Jehle, Jason Saltis and William ’Bull’ Hislop. God bless you all!

 

Angel Breakfast will be on Saturday, December 5. Every other year since 1991 it has been a tradition at OVCC to hold an Angel Breakfast for children 30 months to kindergarten age and their parents. Sign-ups will be on Sundays, November 22 and 29. If you would like the opportunity to be part of the committee to introduce Christmas time to little ones call Jan Worsham at 646-6948.

Thanksgiving Potluck Feast at OVCC for each and everyone who would like to spend Thanksgiving Day with your church family.   Yum-o!   It will be here at church, from 1-4pm. 

            There will be a Pumpkin Dessert Bake-Off Contest.  Rules are: Must use pumpkins as main ingredient, must be homemade (not store bought), provide ingredients list and finally, you must be willing to eat your own creation J.  Sign-ups are on the patio.  If you plan on bringing a turkey, please contact Don Smith, 746-3172.  Afterwards there will be football on the big screen and board games for everyone.

Thanksgiving Break for the Life Design groups, Pastor Paul’s Wednesday night Bible Study, Crossroads and Aces will be during Thanksgiving week.  Classes resume the following week.

 

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the end of this month, that is, on November 29, will you stay after church and help set up Christmas trees?  Decorating the trees and sanctuary will be on Thursday, December 3 at 9:30am, bring a goodie to share. Youth field trip to see the 3D version of the Christmas Carol at the historic El Capitan IMAX 3DTheatre in Hollywood on Thursday, December 3 for junior high and high school students.  They will be leaving Nordhoff High School at 3pm and will return at 11pm. It’s time to think ‘inside’ the box with Orphanage Gift Shoe Boxes for the orphanage in Agua Viva, Mexico is a rewarding ministry that you can get involved in with very little effort. Fill an empty shoe box with school supplies, toys, hygiene items, t-shirts, candy and other small gifts. Please do not include chocolates or other candy that may melt. Last year over 150 shoe boxes were collected! Gifts will be for infants to children up to 12 years old. Missionary Christmas in November is a way we can give a little something to our missionaries who are furthering Christ’s ministry in the far reaches of the globe. If you would like to show your appreciation, you can drop a check in the offering bag. Please mark on the ‘memo’ line that the check is for ‘Missionary Christmas’. You can also include cash. There are envelopes in the back of each pew just for that. The funds are distributed in November so the missionaries receive their gift by Christmas.

Life Design   All women are invited to attend Life Design this fall.  The ladies are studying “Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophesy” by Beth Moore.  There are two Life Design groups. The daytime study is from 9:15-11:30 am each Wednesday continuing through to December 2.  The evening group meets from 6:30-8:30 pm each Thursday to December. 3. Both groups meet at OVCC.  Life Design is a place where women can gather to learn more about God, as well as share their life journeys with one another.  Life Design offers childcare for children 10 months to 5 years old for the AM group.  Mothers with newborns are invited to attend with their babies during the AM group. Recycle Ministry/Car Clinic is a new ministry under the leadership of Eric and Christine Hodge. This is a two-fold ministry. Not only does our church become more ‘green’ and makes strides towards becoming more responsible for this beautiful planet God has blessed us with, but also, the funds received from recycling goes towards a fund for the Car Clinic. The Car Clinic fund is for individuals and families who need help with car maintenance. You can bring your CRV recyclables to church and place them near the coffee kiosk. OVCC Family Night begins in November. The first Family Night will be on the third Wednesday of the month on November 18 in Leis Hall.  It will have a Thanksgiving Day theme. The drive-in movie for the evening is ‘A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’. Kids are invited to make their own cardboard car in which to watch the movie. The second Family Night will be on Wednesday, December 16 and will have a Christmas theme. It all begins at 6:30pm and runs til 8:00pm. Activities include movies and crafts.  Will you be able to bring one of these items: buttered toast, popcorn. Enough to fill a bowl that’s substantially larger than your head, ice cream, maraschino cherries, whipped cream, pretzel sticks or jelly beans?  If you would like to be a part of this program please contact the office, 646-4324, cpagnusat@ovcc.org.

 

Thanksgiving Potluck Feast at OVCC for each and everyone who would like to spend Thanksgiving Day with your church family.   Yum-o!   It will be here at church, from 1-4pm. 

            There will be a Pumpkin Dessert Bake-Off Contest.  Rules are: Must use pumpkins as main ingredient, must be homemade (not store bought), provide ingredients list and finally, you must be willing to eat your own creation J.  Sign-ups are on the patio.  If you plan on bringing a turkey, please contact Don Smith, 746-3172.  Afterwards there will be football on the big screen and board games for everyone.

 

Thanksgiving Break for the Life Design groups, Pastor Paul’s Wednesday night Bible Study, Crossroads and Aces will be during Thanksgiving week.  Classes resume the following week.

 

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the end of this month, that is, on November 29, will you stay after church and help set up Christmas trees?  Decorating the trees and sanctuary will be on Thursday, December 3 at 9:30am, bring a goodie to share. Angel Breakfast will be on Saturday, December 5. Every other year since 1991 it has been a tradition at OVCC to hold an Angel Breakfast for children 30 months to kindergarten age and their parents. MOMS IN TOUCH In celebration of 25 years of prayer for children and schools Moms In Touch International is hosting a historic prayer event inviting Christian women from around the world to gather together to "Arise, Cry out" for the current generation.  Locally, they will be meeting at CLC on Saturday, November 14 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  For moms who work and can't participate in our weekly morning meetings this is a wonderful opportunity to invest some time praying for your children and this generation.  Please join us for this extraordinary event, for any questions contact Jackie O'Brien at 646-1542.

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the end of this month, that is, on November 29, will you stay after church and help set up Christmas trees?  Decorating the trees and sanctuary will be on Thursday, December 3 at 9:30am, bring a goodie to share. Thanksgiving Break for the Life Design groups, Pastor Paul’s Wednesday night Bible Study, Crossroads and Aces will be during Thanksgiving week.  Classes resume the following week.

First Annual Mentor Madness Poker Run and Car and Motorcycle Show will be this Saturday, November 7, 8am to 3pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.  This is a new fundraiser to benefit the Mentor Program at Nordoff High School.  Our very own Billye and Brady Bonsworth will be showing their 1954 blue Chevy pickup. Youth field trip to see the 3D version of the Christmas Carol at the historic El Capitan IMAX 3DTheatre in Hollywood on Thursday, December 3 for junior high and high school students.  They will be leaving Nordhoff High School at 3pm and will return at 11pm. Angel Breakfast will be on Saturday, December 5. Every other year since 1991 it has been a tradition at OVCC to hold an Angel Breakfast for children 30 months to kindergarten age and their parents. Last day for sign ups will be Sunday, November 15. If you would like the opportunity to be part of the committee to introduce Christmas time to little ones call Jan Worsham at 646-6948.

 

It’s time to think ‘inside’ the box with Orphanage Gift Shoe Boxes for the orphanage in Agua Viva, Mexico is a rewarding ministry that you can get involved in with very little effort. Fill an empty shoe box with school supplies, toys, hygiene items, t-shirts, candy and other small gifts. Please do not include chocolates or other candy that may melt. Last year over 150 shoe boxes were collected! Gifts will be for infants to children up to 12 years old. OVCC Family Night begins in November. The first Family Night will be on the third Wednesday of the month on November 18.  It will have a Thanksgiving Day theme. The drive-in movie for the evening is ‘A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’. Kids are invited to make their own cardboard car in which to watch the movie. The second Family Night will be on Wednesday, December 16 and will have a Christmas theme. It all begins at 6:30pm and runs til 8:00pm. Activities include movies and crafts.  Snacks will be served. Thanksgiving Potluck Feast at OVCC for each and everyone who would like to spend Thanksgiving Day with your church family.   Yum-o!   It will be here at church, from 1-4pm.  Will you be able to bring one of these items; buttered toast, popcorn. Enough to fill a bowl that’s substantially larger than your head, ice cream, maraschino cherries, whipped cream, pretzel sticks,

or jelly beans?

            There will be a Pumpkin Dessert Bake-Off Contest.  Rules are: Must use pumpkins as main ingredient, must be homemade (not store bought), provide ingredients list and finally, you must be willing to eat your own creation J.  Sign-ups are on the patio.  If you plan on bringing a turkey, please contact Don Smith, 746-3172.  Afterwards there will be football on the big screen and board games for everyone.

 

Prayer Requests for the prayer chain can be called in to the church office and they will be forwarded to the Elders and Pastors for confidential prayer.  If you want the body to pray with you, you can also call your prayer request in to the office and specify that it be put in the bulletin for the body to pray. MOMS IN TOUCH In celebration of 25 years of prayer for children and schools Moms In Touch International is hosting a historic prayer event inviting Christian women from around the world to gather together to "Arise, Cry out" for the current generation.  Locally, they will be meeting at CLC on Saturday, November 14 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  For moms who work and can't participate in our weekly morning meetings this is a wonderful opportunity to invest some time praying for your children and this generation.  Please join us for this extraordinary event, for any questions contact Jackie O'Brien at 646-1542.

 

Missionary Christmas in November is a way we can give a little something to our missionaries who are furthering Christ’s ministry in the far reaches of the globe. If you would like to show your appreciation, you can drop a check in the offering bag. Please mark on the ‘memo’ line that the check is for ‘Missionary Christmas’. You can also include cash. There are envelopes in the back of each pew just for that. The funds are distributed in November so the missionaries receive their gift by Christmas.

Many thanks to Pastor Richie, Nadine and the All Star volunteers for many years of sharing the gospel and Christ’s love to children. All Stars last session ended last night. Beginning in November will be Family Night.

Time change for Adult Sunday School.  They meet now at 8:45am instead of 8:30 am in the back of Leis Hall each Sunday morning. Class ends at 9:30am. All adults are welcome to join in at any time. Elder Curt Sowa is leading the lively class.

 

Crossroads is for grades 7-8. They meet on Wednesdays, from 6:45-8:00pm in the Youth Center.

 

Aces is for youth in grades 9-12.  They meet on Thursday evenings, 7:00-8:30 pm in the Youth Center.

 

Life Design   All women are invited to attend Life Design this fall.  The ladies are studying “Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophesy” by Beth Moore.  There are two Life Design groups. The daytime study is from 9:15-11:30 am each Wednesday continuing through to December 2.  The evening group meets from 6:30-8:30 pm each Thursday to December. 3. Both groups meet at OVCC.  Life Design is a place where women can gather to learn more about God, as well as share their life journeys with one another.  Life Design offers childcare for children 10 months to 5 years old for the AM group.  Mothers with newborns are invited to attend with their babies during the AM group. There is a small group designed just for nursing moms, so they won’t miss out on anything.  The cost is $35 which includes the book, snacks and coffee.  Scholarships are available.  For information and to register, call Cindy Wachter at 646-7471,cwachter646@yahoo.com.

 

Do you need a quiet place to connect with God? The new Chapel location is at the foot of the stairs at the back of Leis Hall. It is in the room that is shaped like a triangle.

‘Encourage’ is a new class for 7th -  8th graders during the sermon time. They will meet every Sunday of the summer, except for the first Sunday of the month (Family Service).

 

Facebook fever is sweeping the world. It is a great online way to stay in contact with friends, family and groups.  Ojai Valley Community Church now has a page.  Thanks to Pastor Ryan for setting it up.  It’s free. It’s fun. Dazed and Confused get together is a great new way to have your questions answered by our pastors. Does the sermon leave you with questions you would like to ask?  Are you ‘dazed and confused’?  This meeting time is made especially for you. Meet right after the Sunday service directly across the patio from the sanctuary in the Cornerstone Room of Bayless Annex. Parents, please pick up your children before you join this group.

 

Would you like to be involved in the Memorial Ministry?  This is a way you can help the families and loved ones of people who have died. If you think you would like to help by organizing the food and servers here at church for receptions following funerals or memorials, please contact Pastor Richie at 646-4324.

Recycle Ministry/Car Clinic is a new ministry under the leadership of Eric and Christine Hodge. This is a two-fold ministry. Not only does our church become more ‘green’ and makes strides towards becoming more responsible for this beautiful planet God has blessed us with, but also, the funds received from recycling goes towards a fund for the Car Clinic. The Car Clinic fund is for individuals and families who need help with car maintenance. You can bring your CRV recyclables to church and place them near the coffee kiosk. Time change for Adult Sunday School.  They meet now at 8:45am instead of 8:30 am in the back of Leis Hall each Sunday morning. Class ends at 9:30am. All adults are welcome to join in at any time. Elder Curt Sowa is leading the lively class.

 

Crossroads is for grades 7-8. They meet on Wednesdays, from 6:45-8:00pm in the Youth Center.

 

Aces is for youth in grades 9-12.  They meet on Thursday evenings, 7:00-8:30 pm in the Youth Center.

 

Life Design   All women are invited to attend Life Design this fall.  The ladies are studying “Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophesy” by Beth Moore.  There are two Life Design groups. The daytime study is from 9:15-11:30 am each Wednesday continuing through to December 2.  The evening group meets from 6:30-8:30 pm each Thursday to December. 3. Both groups meet at OVCC.  Life Design is a place where women can gather to learn more about God, as well as share their life journeys with one another.  Life Design offers childcare for children 10 months to 5 years old for the AM group.  Mothers with newborns are invited to attend with their babies during the AM group. ‘Encourage’ is a new class for 7th -  8th graders during the sermon time. They will meet every Sunday of the summer, except for the first Sunday of the month (Family Service).

Dazed and Confused get together is a great new way to have your questions answered by our pastors. Does the sermon leave you with questions you would like to ask?  Are you ‘dazed and confused’?  This meeting time is made especially for you. Meet right after the Sunday service directly across the patio from the sanctuary in the Cornerstone Room of Bayless Annex. Parents, please pick up your children before you join this group.

 

Would you like to be involved in the Memorial Ministry?  This is a way you can help the families and loved ones of people who have died. If you think you would like to help by organizing the food and servers here at church for receptions following funerals or memorials, please contact Pastor Richie at 646-4324.

Recycle Ministry/Car Clinic is a new ministry under the leadership of Eric and Christine Hodge. This is a two-fold ministry. Not only does our church become more ‘green’ and makes strides towards becoming more responsible for this beautiful planet God has blessed us with, but also, the funds received from recycling goes towards a fund for the Car Clinic. The Car Clinic fund is for individuals and families who need help with car maintenance. You can bring your CRV recyclables to church and place them near the coffee kiosk. OVCC Children’s Christmas Musical is titled ‘The Christmas Family Tree’.  See how one family discovers the members of the original Christmas family.  Children grades first through eighth are invited to be in the musical. Rehearsals are held in the 4’s and 5’s room just off the patio.  The musical performance dates are Saturday, December 5 at 6:30pm and Sunday, December 6, 9:30am during the Sunday service. If you are interested in being in the programs would like to volunteer to help, please contact Sue Lakes at 646-4243.

 

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Ojai Valley Family Shelter Golf Tournament. The tournament raised over $5000! Thanks to Rod Owen and all the volunteers who made this happen.

 

It’s time to think ‘inside’ the box with Orphanage Gift Shoe Boxes for the orphanage in Agua Viva, Mexico is a rewarding ministry that you can get involved in with very little effort. Fill an empty shoe box with school supplies, toys, hygiene items, t-shirts, candy and other small gifts. Please do not include chocolates or other candy that may melt. Pastor Paul’s Wednesday Evening Bible Study Class is on Wednesday evenings also 6:30-8pm. Childcare is available for parents attending this class.

 

Community Outreach Halloween Carnival will be on Friday, October 23, 7-9pm, at the Ojai Recreation Center, 510 Park Road in Ojai.  OVCC will be hosting carnival games at this event.  Donations of candy are very much appreciated.  We also welcome volunteers. All Stars last class will be October 28. We thank Pastor Richie, Nadine and all the parent volunteers for their time and spiritual guidance for the last several years.

 

OVCC Family Night will be extended into the fall. The first Family Night will be on the third Wednesdays of the month. The first one for fall will be Wednesday, November 18.  It will have a Thanksgiving Day theme. The drive-in movie for the evening is ‘A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’. Kids are invited to make their own cardboard car in which to watch the movie. The second Family Night will be on Wednesday, December 16 and will have a Christmas theme. It all begins at 6:30pm and runs til 8:00pm. Activities include movies and crafts. snacks will be served. Positive Parenting Workshops include ‘That’s It You’re Grounded! Thanksgiving Potluck Feast at OVCC for each and everyone who would like to spend Thanksgiving Day with your church family.   Yum-o!   It will be here at church, from 1-4pm.  There will be a Pumpkin Dessert Bake-Off Contest.  Rules are: Must use pumpkins as main ingredient, must be homemade (not store bought), provide ingredients list and finally, you must be willing to eat your own creation J.  Sign-ups are on the patio.  If you plan on bringing a turkey, please contact Don Smith, 746-3172.  Afterwards there will be football on the big screen and board games for everyone.

 

Divorce Care is on hiatus for the time being.

 

Angel Breakfast will be on Saturday, December 5. Every other year since 1991 it has been a tradition at OVCC to hold an Angel Breakfast for children 30 months to kindergarten age and their parents. If you would like the opportunity to be part of the committee to introduce Christmas time to little ones call Jan Worsham at 646-6948.

 

Help Wanted, Coffee Volunteer. Do you enjoy having a cup of coffee or tea at church on Sunday mornings?  Many thanks to Tim Kitzmiller, who for years made sure we did not miss our cup of java in the mornings. Nordhoff Moms in Touch  meets on Friday mornings 7:30 - 8:30am has moved to Leis Hall now, instead of the Prayer Chapel.  Do you feel like you are always praying for your children "on-the-run" or a prayer time that is a bit "hit and miss"?  Mom's in Touch invites you to join.  They are a group of Nordhoff H.S. moms.  They are all learning to pray for teens so there is no need to "hold back" because you feel you aren't a good "pray-er".  They are a friendly group who are eager to welcome you!  For more information about our group or other Moms in Touch groups at other schools in the Valley call Jackie O'Brien at 646-1542.  "Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord, lift up your hands toward Him for the lives of your children."  Lamentations 2:19
